The Closest Thing to Natural Teeth Is Implant-Supported Restorations

Dental implants offer many advantages over traditional restorations, including:

Natural Function

By anchoring your restorations to your jaw, you can expect your new teeth to function just like natural teeth. As such, you do not need to worry about your restoration sliding out of place while speaking or eating.

Protection Against Jawbone Atrophy

When a tooth is no longer present to stimulate the jawbone, bone tissue will begin to recede. This can not only cause other teeth to become loose due to the lack of support, but can also affect your facial contours. Dental implants are the only treatment capable of stopping bone atrophy after tooth loss.

Improved Self-Confidence

Reestablishing a healthy smile can significantly boost your self-esteem. In addition to allowing you to speak and eat confidently, dental implants paired with high-quality restorations can replace each missing tooth in an exceptionally realistic-looking way.

An Investment in Your Smile Can Provide a Wealth of Benefits

Because of their affordability, the most common options for replacing lost teeth are traditional bridges and dentures. This is especially true when you consider that each dental implant can add more than $2,000 to the cost of treatment.

However, dental implants provide a significant benefit not offered by traditional restorations: preventing jawbone atrophy. As bone loss progresses, traditional dentures require frequent relining and adjustments. The cost of these adjustments adds up over time. Implant-supported dentures help your jaw keep its shape and size, and require significantly fewer (if any) adjustments.

Treatment Cost and Financing

The starting cost for a single implant at our practice serving Rio Rancho, the East Mountains, and surrounding areas is $1,900. This does not include bone grafting, abutments, or your restoration. While this may seem like a significant investment, dental implants can prevent the need for more extensive and costly future treatments while providing unparalleled results.

While insurance typically does not cover dental implants, we do not want our patients to be discouraged from this highly effective treatment. As such, we offer an in-office discount plan as well as third-party financing. Our Dental Benefits Program is offered to patients without insurance and provides discounts on services. Patients can also apply for CareCredit®, which offers a variety of payment plans.

Have You Been Told You Don't Qualify? Consider All-on-4 Dental Implants

All-on-4 dental implants are another implant option at our Albuquerque, NM, dentistry practice that can replace a full arch of natural teeth and provide life-changing benefits using just four implants. In most cases, All-on-4 can support a denture immediately after placement surgery. During a consultation, Dr. Steven Ollason can determine if this solution is right for you.

See How Implants Work

Replacing a tooth using this solution involves three basic steps. The dentist places the implant into the jawbone to replace lost roots, attaches an abutment (connection device) to the implant, and then places a custom replacement tooth onto the abutment. We can tailor a solution to replace one tooth or many teeth.

What Can a Dental Implant Support?

Implant-supported crown

Crown

An implant-supported crown is a dental solution that can connect to a titanium implant, completely replacing a single tooth.

Implant-supported bridge

Bridge

A dental bridge can attach to two implants or an implant and an abutment tooth to restore several missing teeth in a row.

Implant-supported denture

Denture

Implants can securely hold a full or partial denture in place to restore entire arches of teeth or widespread tooth loss.

What to Expect During The Implant Process

Traditional dental implants require at least two surgeries separated by about three to six months of healing time.
Traditional dental implants require at least two surgeries separated by about three to six months of healing time.

Consultation

Our dentist will review your current oral health and medical records and discuss your goals at our Albuquerque office in order to determine your candidacy for implant surgery.

Implant Placement Surgery

After administering local anesthesia and sedation to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable, our dentist will make small incisions in your gums to place your implants.

First Healing Period

During the next four to six months, your new titanium implants will fuse with the bone tissue of your jaw in a process called osseointegration.

Abutment Placement

An abutment is a small connector that attaches to your implant to your final restoration. During a second minor surgery, our dentist will place the abutment onto your implant.

Second Healing Period

It takes about two weeks for your gums to heal around your newly placed abutment.

Final Restoration

Once fully healed, you will return to our Albuquerque dentistry practice to have your final bridge, crown, or denture placed. Your dentist will make sure your restoration achieves a proper fit by making any necessary adjustments at this time.

Recovering After Your Surgery

After implant placement surgery, you may experience symptoms like pain, swelling, and minor bleeding at the site of your implant. To help aid recovery:

Take Medication

Take your antibiotics as prescribed and use an antiseptic mouthwash to help prevent infection. Prescribed pain medication, over-the-counter pain medication, and cool or warm compresses can help alleviate any discomfort at the site of your implant and in your jaw.

Take a Break

Following your surgery, Dr. Ollason may instruct you to rest for a few days. This includes avoiding all strenuous activity until you are cleared by our dentist and staying home from work for two to three days.

Maintain Proper Oral Hygiene

Though you're healing from surgery, maintaining your oral hygiene is still important. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush to gently brush around your implant and rinse your mouth out thoroughly after each meal. Be careful not to disturb your stitches.

Though there is a short recovery period after dental implant placement surgery, many patients report that receiving dental implants is worth it because of the many benefits they offer for life.
